چکیده

Salt-water intrusion (SWI) is a worldwide problem increasingly affecting coastal aquifers, exacerbated by climate changes and growing demand of fresh-water. Therefore, research on this topic using both physical numerical modeling has been intensified, aiming to achieve better predictions the salt-water wedge evolution design suitable countermeasures its negative effects. This work presents laboratory facility designed conduct SWI experiments that can be used as benchmarks for models. To end, limit errors provide redundant measurements hydraulic heads discharged flow rates. Moreover, size allows us monitor specifically electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) monitoring system. demonstrate capabilities facility, we carried out simple 36-h long experiment in homogeneous porous medium: during initial 24 h evolved without any external forcing, while last 12 h, fresh-water was pumped simulate aquifer exploitation. The monitored through ERT photos collected at regular time intervals. SUTRA code reproduce experimental results, calibrating only dispersivities. results show good correlation with simulated concentrations between borehole electrodes, most sensitive zone area, demonstrating evaluations evolution. Overall, agreement observed data, simulations, demonstrates proposed valuable future studies SWI, even more complex settings.

Large-scale Physical Modeling of Water Injection into Geothermal Reservoirs and Correlation to Self Potential Measurements

Laboratory measurements of electric self potentials resulting from water injection through a known flow path in a 260 mm cube of Nugget sandstone are used to calibrate a new large-scale testing device that simulates the in-situ conditions at an injection point in a geothermal reservoir. Modeled in-situ temperatures were 20?C and 150?C, while injection pressures were varied from 1 to 1200 kPa. T...

Large-Scale Network Intrusion Detection

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) monitors and analyzes networks’ activities for potential intrusions and security attacks. However, the performance of existing IDSs does not seem to be satisfactory due to the rapid evolution of sophisticated cyber threats in recent decades. Moreover, the volumes of data to be analyzed are beyond the ability of commonly used computer software and hardware tools....

Intrusion-Tolerant Dissemination in Large-Scale Systems

With the growth of the Internet and increased demand for Web Services has come a heightened need for scalable wide-area group communication systems. The need for trust in such systems and the vulnerability of such systems to attack provide motivation to develop protocols that are intrusion-tolerant and able to provide critical services even during an attack or in the presence of arbitrary fault...

Numerical modeling of magnetic microchannels for adsorption of water-soluble salt nanoparticles used in water transfer projects

In this research, a seawater desalination system has been studied and simulated by magnetic-electric method. The electric field is considered to ionize seawater and the magnetic field to isolate it. The equations of motion of water and salt particles are modeled by the Euler-Lagrangian method. Particularly important for the separation of micron diameter salts, the magnitude of the electric and ...
